Andre Venter, originally from Welkom in the Free State, a skilled rugby player and like most Afrikaans men in South Africa dreamt about coming to fame as a rugby player for the Springboks, the national team, during his high school days.
Music, however, has also always been close to his heart, and at the tender age of only 6 years, he was included in the cast of the renowned musical, The Sound of Music.
After experiencing literally the 'power of sound' performed by one of his cousins, a classical trained opera singer during a family gathering, it was the tailored suit that triumphed over the world of shorts and rugby boots - something he has not regretted since ever then.
Music is his calling and has provided Andre an excellent platform to
enrich people's lives.
As bass baritone of the vocal quartet ROMANZ he not only performed on national and international stages with the likes of Andrea Bocelli, Rod Stewart and Catherine Jenkins, but also performed at the royal wedding of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco.
He sang the National Anthem at the 2009 rugby clash between the Springboks and the All Blacks in Bloemfontein, South Africa. ROMANZ released eight albums in South Africa of which six went platinum and two reached double platinum status.
ROMANZ dissolved in February 2014 but will be re-united at a Charity concert in Pretoria, South Africa, for one of their musical musketeers who has fallen critically ill.
Andre's focus shifted after the split to his solo goals, TV presenting (kykNET JAM) and singing.
Aside from his work as a presenter on television, he released his first solo album, "Die Man vir jou" ('The man for you'), in August 2015 - a fusion of pop and adult contemporary for which he penned for the first time some of the lyrics himself.
"It has always been one of my greatest dreams to release a solo album," he says, "It's hard work, but the sense of accomplishment one gets from seeing your own music develop, to grow from an abstract idea or a story, a mere thought, to tangible musical notes on paper which evolve into a colour-rich piece of music...
That makes it all worthwhile.
I am unbelievably excited about this and can't wait to share my music with you!"
Andre is currently in the studio with Marin Subasic at M2 Productions in Cologne to record his first album for the German market.
This album has since been nominated for a GHOEMA & TEMPO AWARD for the Best Contemporary Male Album & New Comer for 2016.
One of the songs on the album, "Tot oneindig einde kry", broke a South African Facebook record with over 100 000 views in a few hours after its release!
Andre also had repeatedly the opportunity of combining his greatest passions - singing and rugby - by being invited to sing the South African National Anthem at the Championship Tournament between the Springboks (SA) and the Wallabies
(Aus) in Brisbane, Australia on 18 July 2015, at the Springboks versus the All Blacks in Johannesburg on 25 July the same year, as well as in 2016 at matches in Brisbane, Australia and in London, England in November 2016.
He has since been touring South Africa with a four piece band and a show
called "...with love". The show includes popular hits from the 50's up to
now - all performed in a "classical pop" way. Songs include: Lady in Red,
Must have been love, Can't take my eyes off of you, Love is in the air, Il Mondo, Caruso, Swing medley including L-O-V-E, Fly me to the moon, New York New York as well as the ever green hit song MY WAY!
Andre was a guest artist at the CAPITAL SINGERS event where he performed with a mass choir of 400 members as well as an orchestra earlier this year!
