Roof Of Africa 2017
My first roof of Africa.. I trained and prepared as much as I could for this race as it would be the biggest race to date , I was feeling strong and confident heading to Lesotho and proud to be the youngest rider to start the race at 15 years old.
The morning of Time trial was cold and the start and mountains were covered in snow. I started about 8th so that there could be some tracks in front of me but unfortunately that didnt work as I soon got into the lead, on the 2nd last mountain I struggled to find the pass to go down as it was very hidden away so I lost some time placing me 9th for the day and 20 minutes behind the leaders. Not what I wanted but it was still good for me.
Day 2 (3 hours 57 min)
Day 2 was said to be the tester for bronze class, I couldn't wait to get out there and catch up some time. As we headed out in the first 20 minutes we hit the big climb. Belekomo pass, it was wet and slippery but I managed to get a good rhythm going up. I passed some bronze and silver riders on the pass and during the rest of the day. Now I was only 12 minutes behind the leaders and came first for the day.
Day 3 (2 hours 46 min)
Day 3 is when everyone is tired and just tries to get to the finish.. not me! It was my birthday and I wanted to race as hard as I could to get onto the podium. waiting for any little climbs to make up time but unfortunately the route did not have any passes and was more like an off road race.. I was happy and sad at the same time as I crossed the finish line. I was not happy with the route we only rode For just under 3 hours. I was disappointed that we didnt have a proper tough Roof for my first one.
I finished 4th overall in Bronze class for Roof Of Africa 2017. I will be back and stronger in 2018!
Id just like to thank everyone that helped me get to the Roof.
